Welcome to E-borough Insight
Welcome to the August edition of E-borough Insight, your newsletter from Epsom & Ewell Borough Council.
Towards the end of July, we saw partnership working at its very best with over 50 water voles released into the Upper Hogsmill river - the first seen in Surrey for over 20 years, and a really proud moment for us as a council to have been chosen to have them released in our borough.
Thank you for responding to the Local Government Reorganisation consultation that ended earlier this month. We have officially responded to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government supporting the proposal for three unitary councils in Surrey, and Ministers should confirm the final decision for the future local government structure for Surrey in the autumn.
We want residents to have a strong local voice in the future, and our Community Governance Review consultation asks whether you want Epsom & Ewell to have parish councils which we feel would do just that - our Community Governance Review Consultation is open until 11.59pm on 9 October 2025. Read more in our article.
Have your say on whether to create parish councils in Epsom & Ewell
At a meeting of the full Council in July, Councillors agreed to carry out a Community Governance Review in the borough.
The consultation asks residents for their opinion on whether to create parish areas along with a parish council or councils in Epsom & Ewell, including options for geography, number of councillors and what councils should be called, e.g. parish, community, neighbourhood or village council.
The consultation is now open.
