Saturday 27 April; 7.30pm
St Martin's Parish Church, Epsom KT19 4PX
Acclaimed international concert pianist, Margaret Fingerhut, will be giving a very special concert to raise funds for the Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network. This concert is part of a UK wide tour in co-operation with City of Sanctuary which Margaret is undertaking to help refugee support groups all round the country in more than 30 locations. Through music and words, Margaret tells the story of some of the greatest composers who were refugees or migrants themselves. Including works by Chopin, Grieg, Haydn and Rachmaninov, she has specially commissioned a new piece by Arian, the Syrian composer who wrote the Refugee National Anthem for the 2016 Olympics. The concert tells the stories of the composers through their piano music. They resonate with the current climate of troubling attitudes towards refugees and those in exile. “Far from the Home I Love” is designed to give a cultural context to the theme of migration. Tickets are priced £12 (or £6 concessions) and can be bought by phone on 0333 666 3366 or online at:
