Simply Weekly Recycling - find out more at our roadshows!

Simply Weekly Recycling starts Spring 2017 - Find out more at our roadshows this September and October

Epsom & Ewell Borough Council will collect recycling and refuse every week from Spring 2017.

'Simply Weekly Recycling' will help make recycling simpler, easier and more cost effective. To find out more residents can drop in at one of many Simply Weekly Recycling roadshows taking place across the Borough in September and October. Information is also available on the Council's website at www.epsoThe Big

With more mixed recycling and weekly collections for refuse as well, residents will need a bigger bin for recycling but won't need so much space for refuse. As part of Simply Weekly Recycling, when the new collections start the Council will also switch residents' green and black bins. For the Big Switch, the larger green bin will become the recycling bin and the black bin will become the refuse bin. If anyone is concerned they may not have the right bin set for the Big Switch, they can get in touch with the Council right away on 01372 732000.

"Do keep a look out for information on the new Simply Weekly Recycling service and don't miss the roadshows taking place in September and October to find out more about why simply weekly recycling is so good for Epsom & Ewell."

What about recycling for flat dwellers? Came to present estate from Merton, where a wheely bin system for flat dwellers works fine - no sorting needed. In this borough it simply does not exist. One can bank (usually filled with other things as well) is all we have. The rest (presumably) all goes to landfill. How the council justifies this to the Environment Department I do not know.

We will, indeed, be introducing Simply Weekly recycling to flats.  In fact some flats have the system now, as a trial, and it has worked well.  We will be concentrating on launching Simply Weekly Recycling to houses first, and then to flats later.  So we would expect Simply Weekly recycling to start going in to flats during the summer of 2017, so watch out for information coming your way then.  We are aware that some flats have very restricted space for bins, and so may have difficulty accommodating all of the bins for Simply Weekly Recycling (mixed recycling, glass, food and refuse).  But we aim, of course, to get everyone to the best service possible.  And we expect that Simply Weekly Recycling – because it is simpler and more streamlined than our current service – is likely, in any case, to work for more flats than does our current, more complex service.

This is a welcome change and I look forward to attending at least one of the Road Shows. My green box is falling to pieces so I would hope that it will be replaced with a more sturdy one that can withstand the rough handling my present one suffers.
