Here comes summer!
Aristotle said something along the lines of “One swallow does not make a summer, neither does one fine day”. Well the swallows are now here in force and, after the last weekend, we have certainly had more than one fine day, so if we are to follow the ancient Greek's reasoning, we can now celebrate the arrival of summer!
Summer is the perfect chance to enjoy picnics and barbecues with family and friends but before you munch on that sausage, check out the Spotlight section and eat safe this summer.
It might not feel like it but we are having more sunny days. Disturbingly there has been a corresponding rise in deaths from malignant melanoma (skin cancer) especially in men. In the Key Facts section we look at the latest NHS campaign urging us to ‘cover up mate’.
Last weekend saw 222 youngsters represent the borough in the Specsaver Surrey Youth Games – they did us proud. Read how they did in the news section. This weekend see’s Armed Forces Day when we acknowledge the contribution armed service personnel make to our society. Read more in the events section – the flag is up and ready!
