Have you noticed that the paths to and on Great Pond Dam have been improved?
Epsom Common is a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest, because of its variety of habitats which harbour rich and varied plant and animal communities. Some work was required to ensure Great Pond remains one of Epsom Common’s most treasured habitats.
To ensure vehicular access to the pond in an emergency, a sandstone surface is being added to the path leading to the eastern crest of the dam. In addition, the narrow path along the auxiliary spillway is being widened to prevent erosion of the existing grass edge. The opportunity is also being taken to make some minor repairs to fencing and the spillway channel.
The works will be completed soon and the paths able to be enjoyed.
