Keep on the grass
The borough’s parks and public open spaces are a great place to hold a public event. We have hosted fetes, carnivals, funfairs, charity events, parades, races and more, with numbers taking part ranging from under ten to several thousand!
We’re keen for residents, local groups, businesses and the wider population to use these facilities however If you would like to use a park or public open space for an event or any other organised activity, you will need to apply for permission to do so.
This is for a variety of reasons, including so that we can ensure that multiple events do not take place simultaneously and that the event you are holding will not interfere with other park users or unreasonably disturb the park’s neighbours.
There may be charges for the use of our parks, any such income is reinvested back into the parks to ensure their sustainability.
Some activity is not allowed (eg we do not permit the use of Chinese lanterns in our parks and open spaces). Other activity that aligns with our wellbeing and healthy living aspirations is strongly encouraged and supported.
For larger events and sporting activities, you will need to provide detailed information including evidence of insurance, risk assessments and an event management plan. You may also have to show that you have the correct entertainment licenses arranged.
Events can take a lot of planning and we strongly recommend that you allow yourself plenty of time from your initial enquiry to the event date.
