Car park investment
As we mentioned in the last issue of eborough Insight, we have recently undertaken some upgrades to a couple of our car parks – thank you for the positive comments we have received about the results.
Hope Lodge car park
We have created some additional spaces and widened some of the existing bays. This work is now completed and the car park is fully open.
The original design from our contractor was rejected, as our tree officer objected to the proposal to remove an established tree ‘of merit’ and the layout was redesigned to accommodate this existing tree.
We used the opportunity to remove a small clump of poor quality elms as these are susceptible to disease. We will be planting new sustainable trees and a native species hedge at the perimeter of the car park as part of our commitment to the borough’s biodiversity. This work will be undertaken in the autumn, the optimum time to ensure the new planting thrives.

The improvement work on Level 4 is also now complete.
A new resin surface has been laid and we have relined the layout to increase the width of some spaces and introduce some parent and child bays.
These parent and child bays are designed to make it easier for families to unload the car and are intended for drivers accompanied by babies and/or children under 12 (ie the age requirements for the use of child restraints and car seats). They can also be used by heavily pregnant women, who need extra space in the same way a parent with a small child would need extra room to load shopping and children into the car. Those misusing these spaces may face a penalty fine.
