New Mayor of Epsom & Ewell is Councillor Robert Foote
Councillor Robert Foote, who has served his local community for more than eleven years, has been elected as the new Mayor of Epsom & Ewell for 2014-15.
Robert, who has been a Borough Councillor for Cuddington Ward since May 2003, told the Council's Annual Meeting on Tuesday, 6 May that he would ' try to meet as many people as possible from the different communities within the Borough’, and particularly hoped to meet and encourage younger people.
Robert said: "The feeling of excitement that I am now experiencing as Mayor can only be compared with my first solo flight as a private pilot!
“The Mayor is often seen as a symbol of an open society because the role is no longer restricted to an elite group; the ‘First Citizen’ can come from any class, gender or ethnic background.
“My personal theme for the year will be “Connecting with Communities” and I will try to do my best to meet as many people as possible from different communities within the Borough, whether they live or work here. I particularly hope to meet and encourage many younger people”.
Born and brought up in Bristol, Robert spent 30 years in the airline industry and now runs a car servicing business and works as an MOT tester.
Robert moved to the Borough 19 years ago. As Councillor, Robert has chaired the Crime Prevention Panel, the Licensing Committee and served on the Neighbourhood Policing Panel. For the last year Robert has served as Deputy Mayor. Robert’s wife, Rosemary, will be Mayoress for the year.
The Mayor’s Charities selected by Robert for his year in office are Epsom & Ewell Foodbank, Citizens Advice Bureau and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Councillor Chris Frost was elected as Deputy Mayor.
