The Mayor's Charity Race Night

Sri Raja Rajeswari Amman Temple Chariot Festival
Sunday 3 June
Dell Lane, Stoneleigh, Epsom
Every year, the Sri Raja Rajeswari Amman temple in Dell Lane holds the colourful parade, in which Hindu deities tour the area while devotees prostrate themselves in the road as an act of penance. With just two Hindu temples in Surrey, the festival attracts devotees from across the county. Road closures between 11am - 1.15pm: Dell Road, Briarwood Road and Kenilworth Road.

Epsom Symphony Orchestra Summer Classics - Saturday 2 June - Local musicians present Tchaikovsky's virtuoso 2nd Piano Concerto at their season finale concert. They will be joined by international award-winning pianist Masa Tayama. Also featured in this programme of sunny summer classics is Brahms' beautiful and melodic 2nd Symphony and Weber's charming and vivacious Oberon Overture.
Islands in the Stream (the Music of Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers) - Friday 22 June - Leave your nine-to-five worries at the door and get ready for a night in the company of country music royalty!
Daliso Chaponda; What The African Said - Thursday 31 May - Britain’s Got Talent comedian Daliso Chaponda in his debut stand up tour. The Malawian born stand up was a standout star from this year’s show, capturing the nation’s hearts and garnering over eight million Facebook views and nine million on Youtube. Daliso has just been confirmed for his own Radio 4 series; Daliso Chaponda: Citizen of Nowhere.
Grumpy Old Women to the Rescue – Thursday 21 June - Fed up with flogging their guts out and always having to be in charge, the Grumpy Old Women have put their knobbly old feet up in glorious retirement, free at last to practise their extreme colouring-in, ukulele orchestra and novelty fudge- making- starring Jenny Eclair, Dillie Keane and Lizzie Roper.
Dance Festival - Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 June - an amazing opportunity for your child to perform at the Epsom Playhouse and to represent their school alongside other Epsom and Ewell schools. Your child will be performing a dance routine on stage. A wonderful community event.
Derby Day - Friday 25 May – Presented as part of the town centres Derby Festival Week, Derby Day is a 1952 British drama film directed by Herbert Wilcox and starring Anna Neagle, Michael Wilding, Googie Withers, John McCallum and Alfie Bass. An ensemble piece, it portrays several characters on their way to the Derby Day races at Epsom Downs Racecourse. It cleverly blends dramatic, romantic and comic elements, including the woman and lover who have murdered her husband, and the working class couple who are excited about their chance to go to the races, but end up listening to it on the radio in the car-park because they’ve got such a bad view!
Jason Donovan and his Amazing Midlife Crisis - Wednesday 23 May This autobiographical show will take Jason’s looming 50th birthday as its starting point and will zigzag back and forth through his life. Hear some new stories (and possibly one or two you’ve heard before) plus some of the songs you know and love for a night like no other!
Michael Brandon; Off Ramps - Saturday 26 May - On his journey from Brooklyn to Britain (via Hollywood) Michael Brandon has taken many off-ramps on the way. In this brilliant, funny and engaging show, he tells how he gave himself two years to star in a Hollywood movie. Still there after 50, he lifts the lid on a half-century of showbiz personalities from De Niro to Pacino, Tony Curtis to Kim Novak and his ex-wife, the Bionic Woman! Derby Festival Fashion Shows

The Ashley Centre will be displaying the must haves for the season and showcasing ideas of what to wear to the races. There will be fashion shows on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 May from 11am until 4pm on the hour each hour. The Fashion Shows at 1pm will include three models from The Sunnybank Trust, one of The Ashley Centre’s chosen charities. This is a must-see event for fashion conscious racing fans! During the two days beauty advisers will also be on hand from 11am until 4pm demonstrating make up tips and stunning make overs. Customers will be able to take advantage of free hand massages being offered throughout the day.

Half term! Discover Dad's Army

On Friday 10 May 1940, the Germans had started their attack on Belgium and the Netherlands, using soldiers dropped by parachutes. British troops in mainland Europe were pushed back to the Channel ports and many people feared that the Germans would soon invade. To protect Britain, a new part-time force was to be set up, the Local Defence Volunteers. The Government made an urgent appeal on the radio to all men aged between 17 and 65 to become part-time soldiers. Within 24 hours of the radio broadcast a quarter of a million men had volunteered. Many men who joined the Home Guard when they could not join the regular army because their day-time jobs were necessary to keep the country running.
Cow finds Epsom salts!

This year is the 400th anniversary of the discovery of Epsom Salts Find out how it was uncovered with the help of a cow! This made the name Epsom known around the world and would lead to the Derby, a battle, and England’s first Spa. Hear how the Spa took off as Epsom grew from a village to a town and was visited by the great and the good and the great and not so good! Find out what a good night out was like out at the height of the Spa. Epsom Salts has many uses even today – discover some of them.

Countryside guided walks
Hogsmill River Walk
Sunday 10 June; 2pm-5pm
Meet at Ewell Court House, Lakehurst Road, Ewell KT19 0EB. Enjoy a walk from Ewell Court House to Bourne Hall Park through the Hogsmill Local Nature Reserve. Learn about the wildlife that lives along the river and the history of the gunpowder mills that were once powered by the river.
Horton Country Park Natural History Walk
Sunday 24 June; 2pm-5pm
Meet at the Information Centre, Horton Country Park, Horton Lane, Epsom KT19 8PL. Explore the rich natural history of this local nature reserve.
All guided walks are with a member of our countryside team and take approximately 2.5-3 hours and can cover up to 3 miles. Walks cost £5 per adult, £2.50 per child (16yrs or under). Please wear appropriate clothing. Stout boots for walks and a raincoat when it’s wet. Please leave your dog at home on walks that involve looking for animals; otherwise they are welcome on a lead. Please note that walks may be subject to cancellation due to poor weather conditions. Epsom and Ewell health walks
Epsom and Ewell health walks cater for all abilities. There are shot beginners walks on Mondays for those who are just getting back into exercise. There are also hour long walks on Wednesdays and Sundays for anyone who would like to walk a little further and at a faster pace. Walks are free and there is no need to book. You can just turn up at your chosen venue and join in.

Surrey Cricket Foundation - Girls cricket opportunity!

Surrey Cricket Foundation are offering exciting new Cricket Insights session for girls under the age of 14 at venues across Surrey and South London. The sessions will focus on all areas of the game through a variety of expert coach led skills and drills. There is a £5 fee to book, which will be refunded if the participant attends the session. Surrey Star Hannah Jones will be joined by the U13 County Age Group Lead Coach Sophie Pout and Vicki Howard to help guide and inspire the next generation of young cricketers. Learn My way is a free online course organised by the Mary Frances Trust in partnership with Work Stress Solutions. The aim of the course is to help participants learn new IT skills (or brush up on old ones!). The course aims to cover topics that give participants the skills they need to connect with the world and stay in touch with family and friends. There are a number of topics that participants can choose from. Once they have identified the topics they can then work through them with support from a tutor. Once the course is over, participants can continue learning from home and still access support from the course tutor. Laptops from the sessions are provided, but participants can bring their own if they wish.

Barisons Singers concert

Barisons Singers in collaboration with the Epsom & Ewell Town Twinning Associations will be bringing a Vivaldi Gloria workshop for all choir singers in the areas, to come together and join them for the 100 Voices performance that evening.
Professional coaching will be supplied throughout the day from Soloists who have worked with the English National Opera, Covent Garden, Glyndebourne and the English Touring opera. The performance will be accompanied by a professional orchestra and conductor.
If you love Vivaldi, if you love singing the Gloria then you will love our come and sing with 100 Voices day.
If you would prefer to listen rather than sing, then you are very welcome to come along as a member of the audience. Entry fee will be £5 per person; £3 (over 60s and students). Children under 12 free. Part of the proceeds will be going towards the local mental health charity Love Me Love My Mind, which is based at St Barnabas church, the venue for the workshop and performance.

Sponsored walk helping people face cancer with confidence

Join local cancer support charity Look Good Feel Better for their annual sponsored walk in the beautiful Surrey Hills. For all the family! Choose from - Mighty March (10km) or Steady Stroll (5km) and show your support for people living with cancer. Register now at www.lgfb-swalk.co.uk
Look Good Feel Better is the only cancer support charity specifically set up to help people manage the visible side effects of their cancer treatment. Money raised from their annual walk, SWALK, will help to expand their services across the South East.
Hundreds of people are expected to don their walking boots and stroll through the undulating surrounding of Denbies Vineyard, nestled in the Surrey Hills. Suitable for all ages, this family and dog friendly event offers supporters the choice of a 10km or 5km route which takes in the best of the surrounding countryside.
