Gladiators at the Sacred Spring
Saturday 25 July, 11am-4pm
Free event
Archaeological discoveries in the area suggest that Romans not only travelled through here but may also have stopped at the very spring where Bourne Hall now stands. To celebrate the Festival of Archaeology, authentic Roman re-enactors will set up camp at Bourne Hall, bringing history to life!
Visitors can explore the camp, meet the re-enactors, and learn about daily Roman life through hands-on activities, demonstrations and replica artefacts. Gladiator re-enactors will also perform combat demonstrations, recreating the atmosphere of a Roman arena.
This promises to be a fun, educational, and interactive day for all ages—celebrating Ewell’s rich historical connection to the Roman world and bringing our shared past to life.
