Epsom & Ewell in WW2

Join David Brooks at Bourne Hall for the next museum workshop for children aged 8-12+.

This workshop is to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Epsom and Ewell suffered heavily from bombing in World War 2 and from 1940 to 1944, 890 alerts were sounded, 384 people were injured by enemy action and 33 killed.

Royal British Legion Poppy Hike

The Royal British Legion Poppy Hike is taking place in the beautiful Surrey Hills on Sunday 18 May. Starting and finishing at Epsom Racecourse, you’ll hike through stunning landscapes and through a Centenary Wood which commemorates the sacrifices made in WWI.

With three distances available, 6, 15 or 21 miles, this event is suitable for most abilities, and for those wanting a challenge.

Ewell Village Bowling Club - Open Day

Have a go at lawn green bowls, a sport suitable for all age groups, and have some fun. Beginners and experienced bowlers welcome. All equipment will be provided - just wear flat shoes or trainers.

The River Hogsmill Walk

Enjoy a walk along the Hogsmill Local Nature Reserve with a member of the Countryside Team. Learn about wildlife found along the river and the history of the gunpowder mills, once powered by the river. Meet at Ewell Court House for 2pm

A History of Allotments talk at Epsom Garden Society

The highly entertaining speaker, Dr Judith Hill, will give what should be a really enjoyable talk where we will learn all sorts of interesting facts about allotments.

£2 for members or £3 for guests which includes a raffle ticket and a drink and cake

    There will be many special celebrations this year for the 80th Anniversary of VE Day but few will appeal to our senior citizen’s more than the smash hit patriotic matinee show, Land of Hope and Glory from Neil Sands Productions who for over the past 19 years have been delighting audiences with their spectacular trips back down memory lane earning themselves the title of “The Masters of Matinee Nostalgia”

    Get closer to nature and enjoy the outdoors with our various guided walks. Explore local nature reserves, discover your borough's history and boost your health and wellbeing too.

    Visit the walks page on our website to discover a range of walks that take place across Epsom and Ewell.  

    Epsom & Ewell also has several beautiful open spaces which are great for cycling, including Epsom Downs, Epsom Common Local Nature Reserve, Nonsuch Park, Hogsmill Local Nature Reserve, and Horton Country Park Local Nature Reserve. You can find cycling routes for all these places on our website.

    Epsom Common Association (ECA)

    ECA supports the preservation and protection of Epsom Common local nature reserve and site of special scientific interest. ECA works in partnership with the Council, the Lower Mole Countryside Management Project and English Nature to contribute to the long term management and conservation of the Common.

    Nature walks
    ECA organises a number of walks on the Common each year which are led by local natural history experts. The subjects that are usually covered each year include birds in early spring, wildflowers, butterflies, invertebrates particularly bush crickets, bats and fungi. 

    The EcoVols
    If you care about the Common and enjoy its wildlife and beauty why not join the EcoVols, the volunteer group of the ECA. EcoVols carry out a variety of conservation projects on the Common throughout the year in association with English Nature, the Council and the Lower Mole Countryside Management Project.
