Introduction to the January edition of E-Borough Insight, Epsom & Ewell Borough Council's monthly newsletter.

Welcome to the January's edition of E-Borough Insight, your email newsletter from Epsom & Ewell Borough Council.

The new year brings a fresh opportunity for the council to enhance the borough and make it a better place for our residents.

At the beginning of the month, Epsom & Ewell Borough Council began planting 2,600 trees at sites in Ewell Court Park, the Hogsmill Local Nature Reserve, London Road Recreation Ground, Long Grove Park, Manor Park and Poole Road Recreation Ground as part of the council’s Climate Change Action Plan.

Meanwhile, the refurbishment of the Epsom Playhouse has also been underway and two new fabulous murals took centre stage this month. The murals champion the 40-year history of Epsom Playhouse and are part of a series of vibrant public art installations across the borough.

Improvement works will carry on at Bourne Hall for the next couple of months, as work to replace the windows gets underway. Solar panels were recently installed on the roof of Bourne Hall to improve energy efficiency.

The council hope the community will really benefit from all the work being carried out.

A strong community is an important thing. On January 27, the Mayor, Councillor Steve Bridger, led the borough's Holocaust Memorial Day tribute. Eighty years on from the liberation of Auschwitz and 30 years on from the Bosnian genocide, we know the dangers that come when a community is marginalised and targeted. In his speech, the Mayor encouraged us all to learn from the past, stand by vulnerable communities and build a better future for everyone. You can watch the Mayor's speech on our social media channels and on Youtube.
