Result of by-election

Earlier this month a by-election was held for a Borough Council seat.

To be a borough councillor, you have to be either a local elector or live or work or own a property in the area. One of the councillors who represented Ruxley ward has moved out of the borough. He resigned from the council and this triggered a by-election.

The by-election was held on 15 February and the result was:

Alex Coley
Residents Association
398 votes

Julia Kirkland
Liberal Democrat
67 votes

Themba Msika
264 votes

Stephen Pontin
340 votes

Alex Coley has duly been elected

Turnout was 23.38%

The council consists 38 seats. This result means the make-up of the Council is unchanged:

  • 31 Residents association
  • 4 Conservative
  • 3 Labour

Local elections are held every four years to elect borough councillors to represent the 13 wards in Epsom & Ewell. The next elections will be held in May 2019.
